The proper usage of "Ahoy"? - April 25, 2005

New sailboat at parent's place getting fixed up for some lake time this summer. Lazy weekend. "Groundhog Day" is a good movie, but the ending was a bit of a let down. (For a realist.)

'Ahoy' is a Czech word for informal hellos and goodbyes. So really, you should only say 'Ahoy' out on the lake if you are a frequent guest on Vaclav Havel's yacht.

Or if you've had a few run-ins with Franz Kafka on the high seas. And who hasn't?

Smartypants.

I think I'm going to continue wallowing in my ignorance and believe that it's exclusively piratesque.
