Beautiful Technological Pickle - April 19, 2005

mac_mini.jpg

I got my Mini yesterday and ever since have been suffering something of a informational-technological-existential crisis. It's not the mini's fault, it's mine. OS X is as delightful to use as I remember -- my only gripe is that the system is a little on the pokey side (especially compared to my 2.5ghz, Gig of ram PC.)

My problem now is that I have 4 PCs that I use regularly, but I want to have 1 place to store everything. Bookmarks, Documents, Music.. I don't want to have to hunt around or search for it. I can attempt to put it all on the Mini since its networking software plays very well with Windows (almost better than my laptop's copy of XP).

I don't really have time to sit down and sort all this stuff out, though.

I guess first thing's first: re-learn bash. Re-learn OS X keyboard shortcuts. Buy longer cable. Clean room. Re-arrange room to fit all stuff on the shelf.

All these things are incompatible with having an actual life. Tough being me.

You really need to just sit down and stare at a picture of a starving child for an hour. Then read your post again.

Go and see the nice people at Apple. I'm sure they will be only too happy to craft an elegant and only slightly extortionately-priced solution to your problem. They're like that.

Or perhaps amalgamate some of the functions of your 4 computers and get rid of one or more of them? Blasphemy, I know, but maybe you could just swill the idea around for a while.

I'm awarding three bleeding heart points to Edwardo with an honorary "Cry me a river" merit badge. Unfortunately, given the sheer amount of time he spends in soup kitchens, he may never receive them.

(Yes, I know that attitude is indicative of "all that's wrong with the world".)

Uhh.. What was I saying?

GET RID OF THE COMPUTERS??? That's a bigtime minus two geek points from blandyboy. Unfortunately, I think 4 is the minimum set I can realistically survive with (work machine, laptop, PC for games, now the mac). I have two more, but they're just sitting fallow at the moment.
